Shorewood resident Kevin Cunningham, an eighth-grade student at St. Therese School in Deephaven, is a semifinalist in the 2007 Minnesota Geographic Bee.

Kevin, the son of Mary and Robert Cunningham, will compete Friday, March 30, at Macalester College in St. Paul.

Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the state to determine each school's Geographic Bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society.

In each of the 50 states and in the territories, the National Geographic Society invited the students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level. Kevin will be the 13th student from St. Therese to compete at the State Bee in the 18 years of the Bee's existence.

The state winner will represent Minnesota in the national finals May 22-23 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
