Our Viewpoint
Elect Freiberg, Shaffer to Golden Valley City Council
Water issues - coming in the form of edicts from the Metropolitan Council to managing inflow and infiltration, and a resulting sewer-inspection program that has chafed many residents - have occupied much of the Golden Valley City Council's time and energy this year.
In addition, City Council members are focusing on an Interstate 394 corridor study and ramifications from a massive project being launched in St. Louis Park that will spill over onto Golden Valley property.
The Sun-Post believes that incumbents Mike Freiberg and Bob Shaffer should be returned to office to continue the work they have begun on these important projects.
Freiberg is a young attorney who is often at odds with other council members. But, he is attentive to residents' concerns and raises viewpoints that must be considered.
Shaffer, an architect who previously served on the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, understands development issues well and has a solid vision for what Golden Valley can and should be in the future.
Giese, an unabashed cheerleader for Golden Valley and for the average citizens' concerns, has proven to be a tireless worker on behalf of city initiatives. He has been an unsuccessful candidate for the City council in the past. His service to the city on commissions and committees should continue to be encouraged and utilized.
Other candidates for the City Council are Bill Anderl, Bradley Kadue and Christopher Miller. All three are all first-time candidates with the best interests of Golden Valley at heart. They could best serve the city at this time by becoming members of a city commission or committee.
No matter what the voters decide on Nov. 6, all six candidates for the City Council have indicated a willingness to serve and deserve the thanks of all Golden Valley residents.
