- The Eagles ended their girls tennis dual meet season with a 7-0 loss to Visitation in the Section 3AA team playoffs Oct. 1.


Kennedy (0-16 overall, 0-10 Lake Conference) will compete in the Section 3AA individual tournament starting Monday, Oct. 13.

Kennedy's singles entrants will be junior Maureen Carberry and senior Hanna Daniel.

Kennedy's doubles entries are Jackie Stokes/Shamara Duwearatchi and Alyssa Florey/Rose Nguyen.

"We are headed in the right direction and have seen significant improvement in our team from last season," said Kennedy head coach Ryan Keith. "We had valuable senior leadership.

"We were a little young at the top of the lineup but that bodes well for the future. The girls deserve some success based on how hard they work."

Kennedy's young squad kept improving throughout the season and played well against South St. Paul and Farmington during 5-2 non-conference losses.

- Kennedy's boys cross country team placed 12th out of 14 teams in the Victoria Lions Invitational Meet Sept. 30 at Hazelden Par 3 Golf Course.

Eden Prairie won the boys team title with 27 points and Stillwater placed second (65),

Three juniors were Kennedy's top finishers in the meet. Ochaung Akwayplaced 34th with a time of 17 minutes, 22.3 seconds.

Neil Hultgren finished 49th (17:45.0) Dylan Ness was 73rd (18:52.0).

Also competing for the Eagles in the 5K race were ninth-grader John Lanoue(77th, 19:02.3), junior Justin Bartels (85th, 19:45.1) and junior Christopher Lanoue (86th, 19:45.1).

- Kennedy's girls cross country squad also participated in the Victoria Lions meet but did not have a complete team to figure into the scoring.

Eden Prairie won the girls team title with 37 points and Minnetonka was runner up with 83 points.

Kennedy junior Raeann Oxboroughwas 93rd (17:56.1) and junior Jennifer Rundquist finished 94th (17:59.2).

- The Jaguars opened the Section 3AA girls tennis tournament with a 7-0 victory over Richfield.

Jefferson improved its overall record to 10-7 with the playoff win.

Jefferson's Jenny Paxton won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Amanda Drangeidwas a 6-1, 6-0 victor at second singles.

Avery Tucker provided a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles. Elin Gustafson won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.

Jefferson's winning doubles teams included Jen Radle/Rain Ozturk (6-7, 6-1, 6-4), Claire Dickinson/Heather De Los Santos(6-3, 4-6, 6-1) and Kelsey Barnes/Rachael Barnes(6-0, 6-1).

Jefferson concluded its regular season with a 6-1 victory over Eagan Sept. 24.

Singles winners were Paxton, Drangeid and Gustafson.

All three Jefferson doubles teams were victorious.

Jefferson edged Eden Prairie 4-3 Sept. 22. Gustafson won at fourth doubles (6-2, 6-2).

Radle and Ozturk combined for a 7-5, 6-2 victory at first doubles. Dickinson and De Los Santos were 6-4, 6-2 winners at second doubles. The Barnes sisters teamed for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 triumph at third doubles.

"This was a great team victory," said Jefferson coachNick Hupton. "This is the first time we have beaten Eden Prairie in many years.

"This win was a big confidence booster. Our doubles lineup came through for us."

- Jefferson placed 13th out of 15 teams in the Victoria Lions Invitational girls country meet Sept. 30 at Hazelden Par 3 Golf Course.

Sophomores were top finishers for the Jaguars. Kelly Olson placed 50th (16:07.2) and Amanda Tveite was 83rd (17:09.0).

Val Killam placed 89th (17:16.4) and Morgan Hespendeide was 90th (17:48.8).

Other Jefferson runners were seniors Nara Nelson (92nd, 17:54.4) and Emily Aamoth (94th, 18:42.2).

- Jefferson's boys cross country team placed even higher at the Victoria Lions meet. The Jaguars were sixth with 193 points.

Sophomore Ryan Jerve was top Jaguar finisher in the 5K race with a 20th-place time of 16:50.7.

Ninth-grader Jan Ketterson was 23rd (16:57.5) and sophomore Nick Pluttplaced 39th (17:28.2).

Jefferson's other top runners were sophomore Aaron Larkin (54th, 17:55.0), ninth-grader Ted McGee (57th, 18:00.6), junior Devin Long (60th, 18:12.8) and sophomore Patrick Au (61st, 18:14.8).
