Published: Sunday, February 15, 2009 5:35 PM CST
Henry Sibley is a lock to successfully defend its Classic Suburban Conference boys basketball title.

The Warriors are 10-0 in league play and comfortably ahead of second-place Tartan by three games.

Henry Sibley, 18-2 overall, added three more conference wins recently and rank second in the state Class 4A ratings.

The Warriors will try to strengthen their hold on first place in the Classic Suburban with a victory over host Richfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.

Henry Sibley returns home to battle Mahtomedi at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Henry Sibley defeated North St. Paul 60-32 Feb. 12 as senior guard Maurice Hernandez led the way with 16 points.

Chris Halvorsen added 13 points and Mike Bruesewitz came through with nine points.

"We got off to a bit of a slow start allowing North St. Paul to open the game on a 9-2 run," said Henry Sibley coach Tom Dasovich. "Our defense really clamped down the rest of the way and we were able to go into halftime with a 36-11 lead."

The Warriors earned a 69-52 win over Tartan Feb. 6. Henry Sibley's leading scorers were Hernandez (16), Halvorsen (13) and Bruesewitz (9).

Henry Sibley routed Hill-Murray 85-42 Feb. 3. Three Warriors scored in double figures including Halvorsen (22), Bruesewitz (19) and Hernandez (10). Mike Rostampour netted nine points.
