One of Richfield High School's top female all-around athletes made her college decision Thursday, April 9.
Three-sport standout Kierra Jeffers, a senior, signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth on a softball scholarship.
Jeffers lettered four seasons in softball at Richfield and three times in both volleyball and basketball.
But Jeffers will stick to softball.
"I enjoyed playing three sports in high school but will play only softball at UMD," said Jeffers.
Jeffers is a starting shortstop this season but may play an infield utility role during college.
Jeffers' parents, Todd and Kim, are happy for their daughter.
"We are proud of Kierra and feel UMD will be a good fit for her," said Todd Jeffers. "There were several MIAC schools interested in her, but she didn't want to stay in the Twin Cities for college."
Jeffers carries an impressive academic and athletic resume with her to Duluth.
Jeffers was academic all-state in volleyball and basketball. She maintained a 3.94 grade-point average despite her busy prep athletic schedule.
The Spartan senior was a two-time all-conference and all-section selection in softball. Jeffers received all-state honorable mention and was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
During the fall season, Jeffers demonstrated her athletic skills in volleyball. She was a three-year letter-winner, team captain and MVP.
Jeffers was used as a setter during her sophomore and junior seasons before moving to the libero position as a senior.
Last winter, Jeffers was a starting guard on the basketball team and earned her third varsity letter.
Jeffers will prepare for UMD softball while playing for the Renegades team this summer.
