Figure skating ice show

The Bloomington Ice Garden Skate School and the Figure Skating Club of Bloomington are holding its annual ice show at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Bloomington Ice Garden, 3600 West 98th Street.


Two featured skaters are 2009 Canadian Junior National champion Kate Charbonneau and U.S. National Novice Ladies champion Kiri Baga.

In addition, seven state medalists and members of the Figure Skating Club of Bloomington and Bloomington Skate School will perform.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Children ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

BAA golf registration

Bloomington Athletic Association offers a golf program for boys and girls ages 9 through high school.

There are four one-hour lessons and nine rounds of golf. There is a season-ending tournament with awards presented to every player and a picnic for the entire family.

BAA will hold golf registration at Creekside Community Center in Room 110 on three dates.

One sign-up session is 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, and another one is 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 9. A third sign-up session is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 12.

Eagle hockey fundraiser

Kennedy High School boys hockey team is sponsoring a "Dining to Donate" event from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the Bloomington Applebees restaurant on Lyndale Avenue.

Present this article or present the event's flyer and receive a 15 percent reduction of your bill. This reduction will be donated to the Kennedy High School Boys Booster Club. These funds will be used to purchase new game jerseys.

Attendees are asked to bring a food donation for VEAP.

Kennedy swim social

Kennedy swimming and diving program is hosting its third annual ice cream social at 7 p.m. Monday, May 4, in the Oak Grove Middle School cafeteria.

Join coaches, captains and parents for a closer look at the Kennedy High School boys and girls swimming and diving teams.

Jefferson VB camps

Jefferson volleyball is offering summer training opportunities for girls grades 3-12.

Junior Jags camp is for girls in grades 3-6. Volleyball rules and fundamentals are stressed in this camp.

Youth Advanced Camp for players in grades 7-9 includes skill instruction, offensive/defensive concepts, competitive drills and games.

Camp sessions are offered in June and August. Camp director is Jefferson head coach Michelle Grice.

There are open gyms, weight training and lesson opportunities for players in grades 10-12.

Jag baseball fundraiser

Jefferson High School baseball team will conduct a golf tournament fundraiser at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 17, at Dwan Golf Course in Bloomington.

This tournament will be a four-man scramble. Call Jon Flor for registration information at 612-710-7207.

Snowboarders place high

Bloomington members of the local G Team Snowboarders finished high at the 2009 USASA National Snowboarding Championships April 3-10.

G Team riders train at Hyland Ski Area in Bloomington from September through mid-March.

Ian Aarsvold was 31st in slopestyle competition. Victor Smith finished 48th in halfpipe, 29th in slopestyle and 24th in boardercross.

Mark Tamminen was ninth in the giant slalom, 17th in slalom and 42nd in boardercross.

Women's tennis club

Bloomington Women's Tennis Club has openings for all levels of players (residents and non-residents).

Cost is $24 for singles and $44 for doubles. Doubles matches are played Wednesday and Thursday evenings on reserved courts. Singles matches can be played anytime.

Traveling BB coaches

The Jefferson Girls Traveling Basketball Association (JGTBA) is seeking coaches for its fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teams for the 2009-10 season.

Zins is all-star selection

Bloomington Kennedy senior forward Brittany Zins competed for the Class 4A team in the Minnesota Girls All-Star Basketball Series April 24-25.

Zins was an all-conference player and one of Kennedy's top rebounders and scorers this past season. She is headed to Northern State University next fall on a basketball scholarship.

Neumann receives award

Bloomington Jefferson senior captain Nicole Neumann was the recipient of the fourth annual Charlie Stryker Scholarship award presented by the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association.

This award honors the traits of sportsmanship and team play.

Neumann earned all-conference honorable mention and played both defense and forward for the Jaguars.

Clark seeks world marks

James B. Clark, 45, will attempt to break two world records for strength and endurance at 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Mt. Hope Redemption Lutheran School in Bloomington.

Clark will attempt to break these world records in the sit up-with-weight category. He will attempt more than 50 situps nonstop while holding 100 pounds on his chest.

He will then attempt more than 580 situps with that same 100 pounds in 60 minutes.

Clark is doing this event to raise funds for the formation of Lion's Gate Christian Academy in hopes of providing a school for students of Concordia Academy and Redemption. Concordia is closing down at the conclusion of this school year due to economics.

Snedeker bats .419

Yavaipai College freshman second baseman Ashley Snedeker of Bloomington is batting .419 for her women's softball team.

Snedeker has collected 65 hits and 28 RBIs while helping Yavaipai post a 42-7 record.

Yavaipai College is located in Prescott, Ariz.

Jefferson soccer camp

Jefferson High School girls soccer coaches and players will direct a youth soccer camp from 9 to 11:30 a.m. daily June 15-19 at the school.

Jefferson head girls soccer coach Sarah Connelly will direct the camp for girls in grades 2-9.
