Hopkins' Stages kicks off season Sept. 25
Stages Theatre Company will kick off its 2009-10 season with its premiere of "I Like Me" Friday, Sept. 25, at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
The show, based on Nancy Carlson's book, is about Louanne Pig and her friends as they "discover self-esteem and the power of being true to oneself." Michael Erickson is the playwright and composer of the show, which runs through Oct. 25.
Fans of Carlson will have the chance to meet her and have their book signed after the 7 p.m. performance Sept. 25 and the 1 p.m. performance Oct. 17. The cast will perform at Toddler Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mall of America Sept. 29.
Eight classic children's books will come to the stage during Stages' 2009-10 season. Besides "I Like Me," productions include "Alice in Wonderland," "Twas the Night Before Christmas," "The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats," "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing," "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type," "The Outsiders" and "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka."
"Stages Theatre Company has a history of creating and producing amazing shows that come from children's literature, both classic and contemporary," said artistic director Sandy Boren-Barrett. "With that in mind, our 2009-10 season may truly be called 'a season of classics."
