If the votes hold, the Edina Board of Education will have a slightly different makeup come January.

Based on unofficial results Tuesday, Nov. 3, Idith Almog and Randy Meyer will be joined by newcomers Regina Neville and Lonni Skrentner. Brian Hedberg did not seek re-election.

“I want to say a huge thank you to my supporters,” Skrentner said. “Everybody said nobody has worked this hard to earn a seat on the Edina School Board. I am humbled by their support.”

Jeff Johnson was not elected to a third term. However, only 17 votes, or .18 percent, separated him from Skrentner, so there might be a recount.

Almog led the voting with 1,760 votes, or 21.3 percent. Meyer followed with 1, 654 votes or 20.01 percent. Neville was next with 1,648 votes or 19.94 percent, followed by Skrentner with 1,581 votes, or 19.13 percent. Johnson received 1,564 votes, or 18.95 percent.

“I’m assuming they’ll do a recount, but I haven’t heard anything,” Johnson said. “I don’t want to pull a Franken and Coleman deal.”

Neville said she is looking forward to working with the administrative team and the community, and said she wants to focus on personalized learning and communication.

“Everybody really had a great turnout,” Neville said. “It shows that Edina is fortunate to have five strong candidates.”

Skrentner said one of her top goals is to build a long-term experienced teaching staff to keep Edina number one.

Almog said the board will likely have to pass a technology levy in her next term.

“We’ll have challenges in front of us, but we have good leadership and I’m sure we’ll be able to face those challenges,” Almog said.

Meyer said the budget and personalized learning will be the big issues the board will face during his third term.

“I’m just thrilled to have the privilege to serve the community, and I’m grateful for the people’s votes,” Meyer said.
