Junior Olympic tryouts
Eden Prairie Junior Olympic volleyball pre-tryout clinics for fifth-, sixth- and ninth-graders continue Nov. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eden Prairie Activity Center.
Seventh- and eighth-grade pre-tryout clinics are from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the same dates at the EPHS Activity Center.
Tryouts for seventh- and eighth-graders plus 11th- and 12th-graders are 9 a.m. until noon Nov. 21 at the Activity Center. Check-in is from 8-9 a.m.
Tryouts for fifth- and sixth-graders plus ninth- and 10th-graders are 1-4 p.m. that day. Check-in is 12-1 p.m.
Travel baseball coaches
Eden Prairie Baseball Association is accepting applications for travel coaches for the 2010 baseball season.
Coaches are required for teams at each age level - 10-15 years-old, Mickey Mantle and Senior Babe Ruth.
Visit the organization's website at www.epbaseball.com and print the travel coach application form under travel coaches information section. Or you may call Doug Kaufman at 952-210-4094 and leave message with name, complete address, phone number and age level. An application will be mailed to you.

Sphatt is recognized
Jacob Sphatt, an eighth-grader at Central Middle School in Eden Prairie, was honored at the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association banquet Nov. 7.
Sphatt was recognized for being named to the Olympic Development Program Region II Player Pool for those soccer participants born in 1996.
Cowles aids Gophers
Eden Prairie High School graduate Hailey Cowles is a junior member of the University of Minnesota women's volleyball team.
Cowles contributed 12 kills during the Gophers' 3-0 Big Ten victory over Purdue Nov. 8 at the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota won 25-22, 25-22 and 25-17.
The Gophers improved their record to 19-7 overall and 10-4 in the Big Ten Conference with that win.
