Letter: Vote Britton in District 43A
I support Audrey Britton for state representative and here's why.
On the last day of the 2010 legislative session, a bill that would have made it easier for Minnesota to collect from other states the costs of educating out-of-state kids temporarily living in Minnesota was before the House of Representatives.
This noncontroversial bill, which would have raised revenue for our schools and would have been a small but significant step toward easing Minnesota's budget deficit, was approved unanimously by both parties in the Senate, but was defeated on a procedural vote in the House.
The incumbent, Sarah Anderson, voted against that bill.
The effect of her vote was to put the whims of her party leaders above the interests of her constituents and those of all Minnesotans.
It is also one more example where the incumbent has deliberately chosen the interests of her political party over the interests of her constituents. Her vote is simply unacceptable from someone who is supposed represent the citizens of Plymouth and Medicine Lake.
I believe serious times call for serious legislators. Legislators who will do what's best for our state, who will be thoughtful about the votes they take, and especially who will be guided by their own judgment and by the judgment of their constituents.
I know Audrey will be such a legislator. Please join me in voting for Audrey Britton for state representative for House District 43A on Nov. 2.
Kristin Leonard,
Medicine Lake
