LAAC arts sale
The Lakeville Area Arts Center is hosting its first Pan-O-Prog Art Sale 9-4:30 p.m. July 7-10 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11. The sale features artwork handcrafted by Lakeville Area Arts Center students and instructors. Shoppers will find a variety of mediums including jewelry, pottery, garden accessories, and more.

Air Force Airman Andrew Wilson graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Joann and Robert Wilson of in Lakeville, and a 2007 graduate of Apple Valley High School.

District 196 speech, debate national finishes
Two District 196 students won national titles at this year's National Forensic League Speech and Debate Tournament June 14-19 in Birmingham, Ala.

Dakota City camp
A few openings remain in Dakota City Heritage Village's second and third sessions of its annual youth day camp, "1900 Apprentice." Space is available in the sessions 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 6-9 and July 20-23. Each session will include no more than 20 participants.

Ride raises $25,000
The fourth annual Christian Elder Memorial 900 charity bicycle ride for Kids 'n Kinship raised more than $25,000 for the mentorship organization.

Military Week at Zoo
Military Family Week at the Minnesota Zoo, 13000 Zoo Blvd., Apple Valley, is Monday, June 29 to Sunday, July 5. Military personnel, including active, retired and civilian members, will receive free admission and free parking and their family members will be given half-priced admission.

Deb Newberry, director of Dakota County Technical College's Nanoscience Technology program, was appointed to NanoInk Inc.'s NanoProfessor NanoScience Education Advisory Board.

Stimulus funds
Entrepreneurs and small-business owners are invited to learn about $730 million in stimulus funds to the Small Business Administration's loan program. The details in the Recovery Act will be discussed at a Federal Stimulus Package briefing 8-9 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Partners in Higher Education building, 14200 Cedar Ave., Apple Valley. The event is sponsored by the Dakota-Scott WorkForce Investment Board, Dakota Future, the Institute for Business, Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Twin Cities Entrepreneurs. Information will be available from the SBA, the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development and the Pohlad Family Foundation.

Volunteers needed
The Foster Grandparent Program is asking anyone 55 years or older to volunteer with children in local schools for 15 hours a week.
